The Power of Volunteering: Giving Back and Finding Joy.

I recently returned to volunteering at one of our local schools, and it has reminded me just how fulfilling the experience can be. Volunteering is one of the most satisfying activities you can do—it allows you to give back, shift your focus toward others, and make a meaningful impact in your community.

Some days, I arrive on campus feeling a little drained, but the moment I see those sweet little Kindergarteners, my spirits lift. There’s something incredibly heartwarming about the way they light up when they recognize me on the playground. It’s a small but powerful reminder of the connections we can build when we show up for others.

My journey with volunteering began back in high school when my mom encouraged me to spend time at a senior citizen center. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the valuable lesson she was trying to teach me. Looking back, I now see how those moments shaped my appreciation for service and the importance of giving my time to others.

One of the things I cherish most is reading, and I believe fostering a love for books starts early. That’s why reading to children is so important to me. I still remember the excitement of walking into the library as a child, searching for that special book that would transport me to another world. That feeling of wonder and discovery is something I want to pass on to the next generation.

Volunteering is more than just an activity—it’s a way to create lasting connections, share joy, and invest in the future. Whether it’s reading to children, spending time with seniors, or helping in other ways, the act of giving back enriches not only the lives of others but also our own. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, I encourage you to take that first step. You never know the impact you might have—or the joy you’ll find in the process.
